6 min read

What if your next professional development experience gave you both meaningful clinical learning and time to enjoy a breathtaking destination?

From January 27–30, 2027, CE Trips is bringing the Complex PTSD Masterclass to the Riviera Maya. You will earn 12 CE credits through focused morning sessions while leaving your afternoons open for cenotes, beaches, Mayan ruins, local food, relaxation, and connection.

This is therapist continuing education with room to breathe.

The masterclass takes place at the Iberostar Paraíso Complex, a beachfront resort setting in the Riviera Maya. Each training day runs from 09:00 to 12:30. After that, the rest of the day is yours.

You can explore. You can rest. You can connect with colleagues or spend time with your family. You can create the professional getaway that suits you.

Start Your Day with Advanced Clinical Learning

The Complex PTSD Masterclass is designed for licensed psychologists, counselors, therapists, clinical social workers, and other mental health professionals who support clients with complex trauma histories.

This intermediate to advanced workshop explores the diagnosis, conceptualization, and integrative treatment of complex PTSD. The content is practical and clinically focused, helping you connect theory with the realities of complex presentations.

Across four mornings, you will explore:

  • The history of trauma-related disorders.

  • DSM and ICD diagnostic considerations.

  • Differences between complex PTSD, PTSD, and borderline personality disorder.

  • Neurobiological, psychological, and developmental pathways.

  • Disturbances in self-organization.

  • Theory-informed case conceptualization.

  • Psychoeducation, motivation, dissociation, and trauma symptoms.

  • Integrative treatment planning.

  • Concepts drawn from CBT, Schema Therapy, DBT, EMDR, and attachment-oriented approaches.

You do not need to be certified in every modality discussed. The goal is to broaden your clinical framework and help you integrate appropriate interventions into individualized treatment plans.

This is meaningful mental health professional development for clinicians who want to understand complex trauma more clearly and respond to it more effectively.

Four Mornings. Twelve CE Credits. Open Afternoons.

The schedule is intentionally simple.

  • January 27, 2027, 09:00–12:30: Trauma-related disorders, differential diagnosis, neurobiology, and treatment planning.

  • January 28, 2027, 09:00–12:30: Theoretical models, developmental trauma, cumulative trauma, and case conceptualization.

  • January 29, 2027, 09:00–12:30: Psychoeducation, motivation, reexperiencing, avoidance, persistent threat, and dissociation.

  • January 30, 2027, 09:00–12:30: Affective dysregulation, self-concept, relationships, integrative treatment planning, and clinical complexity.

Successful completion provides 12 continuing education credits through CE-Classes.com. Participants must attend all scheduled training days and sign in and out each day. No partial credit is available.

You should always confirm course applicability with your licensing board or regulatory body. Requirements can vary by state, province, profession, and jurisdiction.

After the morning session ends, your destination experience begins.

Spend the Afternoon at a Cenote

Cenotes are among the Riviera Maya’s most distinctive natural features. These freshwater sinkholes were formed in limestone and may be open to the sky, partially enclosed, or connected to underground cave systems.

Many cenotes are surrounded by jungle vegetation, limestone formations, and clear mineral-rich water. Depending on the location, you may be able to swim, snorkel, or dive.

A cenote excursion is an ideal afternoon activity after a focused morning of clinical learning. You can spend a few hours outdoors, experience an important part of the local landscape, and return to the resort feeling refreshed.

When planning a cenote visit, consider the following:

  • Choose a reputable tour operator or ecological park.

  • Bring water shoes, a swimsuit, and a light towel.

  • Follow local conservation rules.

  • Avoid applying sunscreen immediately before entering the water unless the location permits it.

  • Use reef-safe or mineral sunscreen for marine excursions.

  • Confirm transportation, entry requirements, and operating hours in advance.

The Riviera Maya tourism corridor includes many cenotes between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. A local guide can help you choose an experience that matches your comfort level and available time.

Walk Along a Beautiful Caribbean Beach

The Riviera Maya is known for white sand, turquoise water, and a relaxed coastal atmosphere. After attending a morning psychology workshop, you may prefer something simple: a quiet walk, a swim, or an hour beneath the shade of a palm tree.

The Iberostar Paraíso Complex offers access to a beachfront resort environment with restaurants, pools, gardens, and other on-site amenities. You do not need to plan a major excursion every afternoon. Sometimes the most restorative choice is to slow down.

You might:

  • Read beside the pool.

  • Swim in the Caribbean Sea.

  • Enjoy a long lunch with a colleague.

  • Walk along the shore at sunset.

  • Spend time with your spouse or family.

  • Take a quiet afternoon away from your usual responsibilities.

This flexibility is one of the central benefits of destination-based continuing education for mental health professionals. Your professional schedule is structured, but your personal time remains open.

Explore Mayan History and Archaeological Sites

The Riviera Maya offers more than beaches and resort relaxation. It is also a place to learn about the history and culture of the Maya.

The Tulum archaeological zone is one of the region’s best-known sites. Its ancient structures sit above the Caribbean coast, creating a memorable combination of history, architecture, and sea views. Arriving early can help you avoid the strongest midday heat and larger crowds. Always verify current admission details and opening times before visiting through official Mexican authorities or a reputable local guide.

For a longer day trip, you may consider Chichén Itzá, one of Mexico’s most significant archaeological sites. This excursion usually requires more planning and travel time, but it can often be combined with a cenote visit and time in Valladolid.

If you have only a few free hours, choose a closer experience. If you extend your stay, a full-day cultural excursion may be a rewarding addition.

You can begin planning with the Riviera Maya information from Visit Mexico and confirm current site information before booking.

Taste the Riviera Maya

Food is another way to experience the destination.

The region brings together traditional Yucatecan cuisine, Mexican favorites, Caribbean seafood, and international dining. You may want to try:

  • Cochinita pibil, slow-roasted pork traditionally prepared with citrus and spices.

  • Panuchos, fried tortillas filled with beans and topped with meat or vegetables.

  • Fresh ceviche and local fish.

  • Tacos, salsas, and regional specialties.

  • Fresh fruit, coffee, and traditional Mexican desserts.

Mental health professionals sharing a relaxed lunch with regional dishes in the Riviera Maya

Playa del Carmen and Tulum offer many restaurants, from casual taquerías to more refined dining rooms. The resort complex also provides convenient options for meals between the morning workshop and your afternoon plans.

Choose restaurants with good reviews and appropriate food-handling practices. Drink bottled or filtered water, and use reasonable care with raw seafood if you are unfamiliar with a restaurant.

A relaxed lunch can also become an opportunity to connect with fellow attendees. You may discuss a clinical idea from the morning, compare professional experiences, or simply enjoy a meal with people who understand the demands of mental health work.

Build Your Own Afternoon Itinerary

A four-day workshop does not need to feel repetitive. You can give each afternoon a different rhythm.

January 27: Settle In and Unwind

After the first morning session, keep your afternoon easy. Enjoy lunch, explore the resort, walk along the beach, and give yourself time to adjust to the setting.

January 28: Visit a Cenote

Choose a cenote tour or ecological park. A half-day excursion can fit comfortably after the 12:30 session, depending on transportation and operating hours.

January 29: Enjoy Local Food and Culture

Plan a relaxed lunch, visit a nearby town, or arrange an early evening cultural experience. Leave enough time to return comfortably for the next morning’s training.

January 30: Reflect and Extend Your Stay

After the final session, celebrate your completed 12 CE credits with a quiet beach afternoon, a special dinner, or an additional night at the resort.

You may extend your hotel stay for up to three days before or after the workshop using the applicable CE Trips booking process and discount code. This gives you more time to explore the Riviera Maya at your own pace.

Practical Planning for the Complex PTSD Masterclass

The workshop fee is CAD $1,200, including tax. Travel and accommodation are separate.

Attendees must book accommodation within the Iberostar Paraíso Complex through the designated hotel booking process. Available properties include budget-friendly, mid-tier, and adults-only options. Use the CE Trips discount code CETRIPS2027 when booking through the provided hotel links.

The resort complex is approximately 30 minutes from Cancún International Airport. Transportation is not included, so arrange an authorized taxi or pre-booked transfer before arrival.

We recommend booking your workshop and accommodation at the same time. Hotel rooms are subject to availability.

You may also be able to offset part or all of your professional education and travel expenses for tax purposes, depending on your circumstances. Tax treatment varies by jurisdiction. Speak with a qualified tax professional before making any assumptions or claiming deductions.

A Professional Investment and an Unforgettable Getaway

The Complex PTSD Masterclass offers more than therapist CEUs. It gives you a focused opportunity to deepen your clinical knowledge, connect with other professionals, and spend meaningful time in one of Mexico’s most beautiful destinations.

Your mornings are dedicated to advanced mental health education.

Your afternoons can include cenotes, beaches, ruins, local food, rest, networking, and exploration.
