January often arrives with a familiar sense of pressure. A new year brings new goals, renewed responsibilities, and a full calendar of client care, documentation, supervision, and professional development.

It can also bring cold weather, short days, and limited opportunities to pause.

That is why January 2027 is an ideal time to step away from your usual routine and join us for the Complex PTSD Masterclass in the Mayan Riviera, taking place January 27–30, 2027.

This four-day professional development experience gives you the opportunity to earn continuing education credits, strengthen your clinical knowledge, connect with other mental health professionals, and enjoy the warmth and beauty of the Riviera Maya. It is a practical and inspiring way to begin the year.

Begin the Year With Fresh Clinical Perspective

The beginning of the year is a natural time to reflect on your clinical practice.

You may be considering how to deepen your trauma-informed work, improve your case conceptualization, or approach complex client presentations with greater clarity. You may also be looking for meaningful mental health continuing education that goes beyond completing a requirement.

The Complex PTSD Masterclass is designed for licensed psychologists, counselors, therapists, clinical social workers, and other mental health professionals who provide therapeutic support to clients with complex trauma histories.

During the workshop, you will explore:

  • The symptoms and development of Complex PTSD.

  • Neurobiological, psychological, and developmental pathways related to complex trauma.

  • Differences between Complex PTSD, PTSD, and borderline personality disorder.

  • Disturbances in self-organization, including affective dysregulation, self-concept, and relationships.

  • Integrative treatment planning for complex clinical presentations.

  • Concepts from CBT, Schema Therapy, DBT, EMDR, and attachment-oriented approaches.

The goal is not to follow a rigid, one-size-fits-all protocol. Instead, the masterclass will help you build a broader clinical framework that you can integrate with your preferred therapeutic methods.

You return home with new ideas, practical concepts, and a refreshed way of understanding the clients you serve.

Escape Winter and Learn in a Beautiful Setting

For many professionals in Canada, the United States, and Europe, January is one of the coldest and darkest times of the year. The Riviera Maya offers a welcome change of pace, with warm temperatures, coastal scenery, and a relaxed atmosphere.

January is generally part of the region’s drier season. Climate averages commonly show daytime temperatures in the mid-to-high 20s Celsius, or approximately the upper 70s Fahrenheit, with cooler and comfortable mornings and evenings. The Atlantic hurricane season has also ended by January.

Weather can always vary, so travelers should review current forecasts and make their own arrangements. Still, the seasonal conditions make January a particularly appealing time for professional travel, outdoor activities, and destination-based learning.

A change in surroundings can support a change in perspective. Instead of moving directly from a cold commute into another online meeting, you can begin your day in a calm tropical environment and spend the afternoon enjoying the destination.

That contrast is part of what makes destination-based professional development so valuable.

Earn Therapist CEUs During the Morning

Your education matters. So does your time.

The Complex PTSD Masterclass is scheduled each morning from 09:00 to 12:30. This morning-only format allows you to focus fully on the workshop while keeping the rest of the day available for relaxation, sightseeing, and personal time.

You can begin with a structured learning experience and then choose how to spend your afternoon. You might enjoy a quiet lunch, walk along the beach, swim, visit a cenote, explore local attractions, or simply rest at the resort.

The schedule is designed to provide flexibility without reducing the importance of the educational experience.

Across the four workshop days, you will receive 12 continuing education credits after successfully completing the training requirements. Participants must attend all scheduled training days and sign in and out each day. No partial credit is available.

Certificates are issued online through the designated CE provider after you register, enter the provided keycode, and complete the evaluation form. Because licensing requirements vary, we encourage you to confirm course applicability with your state or provincial regulatory board.

This approach makes it easier to complete your therapist CEUs while also creating space to recharge.

Make Professional Development Feel Restorative

Continuing education does not need to feel like another obligation squeezed into an already busy year.

When you attend a destination workshop, professional learning becomes part of a wider experience. You can focus on advanced clinical education in the morning and enjoy the restorative benefits of travel later in the day.

The Riviera Maya offers many ways to make your time meaningful and enjoyable:

  • Relaxing on beautiful beaches.

  • Exploring cenotes and coastal landscapes.

  • Enjoying the resort’s pools, restaurants, and amenities.

  • Sharing meals and conversations with colleagues.

  • Extending your stay for additional personal or family time.

You are also welcome to bring your spouse or family. The workshop schedule allows companions to enjoy the destination while you attend the morning sessions, creating a more balanced experience for everyone.

The result is a professional retreat that supports learning, connection, and renewal.

Connect With Colleagues in an Unhurried Environment

Some of the most valuable parts of a workshop happen outside the formal learning sessions.

A destination setting creates natural opportunities to connect with other psychologists, therapists, counselors, and social workers. Conversations over breakfast, between sessions, or during an afternoon activity can lead to new professional relationships and fresh perspectives.

You may meet clinicians who work in different settings, serve different communities, or use different therapeutic approaches. Those informal conversations can broaden your understanding of clinical practice and help you feel more connected to the profession.

The masterclass is an in-person experience. You will learn with colleagues rather than watching another presentation alone from your office.

That human connection matters, particularly for professionals whose daily work can be demanding and emotionally intensive.

Enjoy a Convenient Resort-Based Experience

The workshop takes place at the Iberostar Paraíso Complex in the Riviera Maya, a beachfront resort complex with multiple hotels, restaurants, pools, a waterpark, and a golf course.

Attendees must book accommodation at one of the participating Iberostar properties through the designated hotel links and use the code CETRIPS2027. The workshop fee and hotel costs are separate. Travel arrangements, transportation, and accommodation are managed by each participant.

Available hotel options include:

A minimum stay from January 27 to 30, 2027, is required. You may extend your stay for up to three days before or after the workshop using the same booking code, subject to availability.

The resort complex is approximately 30 minutes from Cancun International Airport. Transportation is not included, so you should arrange airport transportation before traveling or use one of the available local options.

A Practical Start to Your 2027 Professional Goals

The new year is an opportunity to decide what kind of professional development will genuinely support your work.

You may want to complete required credits, but you can also choose education that expands your clinical confidence and strengthens your treatment planning. The Complex PTSD Masterclass offers both.

You will study an important and frequently misunderstood clinical topic. You will earn approved continuing education credits through the designated provider. You will spend time with peers in an inspiring location. You will also have the freedom to enjoy your destination beyond the classroom.

Some mental health professionals may be able to offset part or all of the cost of attending and traveling to a workshop for tax purposes. This depends on your individual circumstances and jurisdiction. Please consult your tax professional before making any decisions.

January 2027 offers a fresh beginning, a beautiful setting, and a meaningful reason to step away from the ordinary. Join us in the Riviera Maya for four mornings of advanced learning and four days of opportunity to relax, explore, and reconnect.
