We are thrilled to present a masterclass on the diagnosis and integrative treatment of complex PTSD in the Mayan Riviera in Mexico from January 27 to 30, 2027. The workshop will empower you with advanced knowledge of CPTSD, including the neurobiological and psychological pathways leading to its development, differential diagnostic issues, and effective case conceptualization and treatment planning considerations. Complex PTSD remains a widely misunderstood phenomena that is often misdiagnosed and insufficiently treated. In this workshop, we will conduct a comprehensive review of the history of trauma-related disorders and how this eventually resulted in the separation of Complex PTSD from PTSD in the latest edition of the International Classification of Diseases. We will take a deep dive into the neurobiological, psychological, and developmental pathways that underscore the development of complex trauma symptoms, with a particular focus on utilizing this knowledge in a practical manner that facilitates comprehensive case conceptualization and impactful treatment. This training will enable you to reconceptualize clients’ symptoms as expectable adaptations to trauma that are amenable to change, rather than confusing, difficult to treat behaviors. This is an intermediate to advanced level workshop that will enable clinicians with prior therapy experience to integrate their own preferred methodologies into a broad conceptual framework of C-PTSD. The intended audience for this workshop is licensed mental health professionals such as psychologists, counselors, therapists, and clinical social workers who provide therapeutic support to individuals with complex trauma histories. We will discuss concepts drawn from a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities for trauma and personality disorders, including CBT, Schema Therapy, DBT, EMDR, and attachment-oriented approaches. You do not need to to be certified in any of these modalities, as the focus will be on illustrating how various types of interventions can be utilized and integrated into a broad, individualized treatment plan that meets the client’s underlying needs as opposed to following a scripted manual that rarely captures the realities of complex cases.

About the Presenter and Daily Schedule
Dr. Hein Swanepoel is a psychologist in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. He has spent the bulk of his career working with complex cases, addressing the impacts of severe childhood abuse, sexual violence, and intergenerational trauma. The focus of his doctoral research was the development of integrative treatment models for complex trauma cases. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Swanepoel has taught both Masters and Doctoral level students as an Adjunct Professor of Behavioral Sciences, and overseen Masters research projects. He has acted as primary supervisor for several interns working towards licensure in clinical and counseling psychology, and has presented continuing education workshops on topics related to trauma and neurodevelopmental disorders to a range of health and mental health providers. Dr. Swanepoel has also submitted assessment reports that had been utilized in legal proceedings in both British Columbia and Alberta, and he has been qualified as an expert witness in psychological assessment by the provincial court of Alberta.

Attendees must be present for all scheduled training days and sign in and out each day to receive continuing education credit. No partial credit is available.
